Vehicle stolen from Tas Police compound

A brazen robbery has seen a four-wheel drive stolen from Tasmania Police's vehicle compound in Hobart.

In dramatic fashion the Nissan Patrol was driven in to the compound gates flinging one of them on to the street.

The incident occurred about 11.15pm yesterday.

Police said it appeared to be a targeted theft as no other vehicle had been tampered.

Damage to the fence and gates is significant

Police are seeking assistance from the public to locate a 1988 Nissan Patrol, registered number C39FY.  The Patrol has a white cab and black tray and has a hydraulic lift mounted on the rear of the tray on the driver's side.  It also had oxy-acetylene bottles strapped to the rear of the cab.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000
