Still conditions and no wind made it hard for competitors to race their yachts from Beauty Point's Tamar Yacht Club, and they had to instead let the tide drift them out to the Heads.
Audere was the quickest to take off at the 10am start, but was soon over taken by race favourite The Fork in the Road.
The Fork In the Road was still leading the fleet after the first hour.
Fish Frenzy had a good start to the race, but then ran aground near George Town.
The race will continue until Sunday.
