There was only one winning entry in Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto’s draw, meaning the lucky ticket-holder will claim the entire $70 million jackpot.
But the entry is not not registered to a player’s card so the winner’s identity is a mystery, OZ Lotto said.
The ticket was purchased in Queensland, and players in that state have been encouraged to check their tickets to discover whether they are a multi-millionaire in time for Christmas.
The $70 million prize is easily the richest lotto prize to be won in Australia, beating the $58.7 million won by a syndicate from Melbourne in 2008.
An Oz Lotto jackpot of nearly $112 million was shared by four winning tickets in 2012, while an $80 million Powerball prize was split in half by two winners in 2009.
‘‘As there was only one first division winning entry in tonight’s Oz Lotto draw, the winner will be written into the record books as the largest lotto winner in Australia’s history,’’ Oz Lotto said in a statement on Tuesday.
The seven winning numbers in Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto’s $70 million draw were 26, 24, 20, 17, 34, 39 and 36, with the supplementary numbers 22 and 23.
