The crash happened about 10pm on Main Street at Perth.
A 28-year-old man was riding with a 31-year-old male pillion, both of Launceston.
Police said this morning that the unregistered motorcycle collided head-on into a ute that was turning off Main Street.
Police also confirmed that neither of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets and that the bike's headlights were not turned on.
The occupants of the ute - a 48-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy, both of Devonport - were uninjured in the accident.
Police received reports about 90 seconds before the crash of a motorcyclist driving without lights on the Midland Highway but Inspector Johnston said it was not certain whether the incidents were related.
Crash investigations continued last night with police closing off Main Street between Drummond and Scone streets.
There have been four motorcycle deaths this week, bringing the motorcycle fatality rate to six in the past month.
Inspector Johnston reminded motorcyclists to wear protective clothing and travel safely.
