Already confirmed as playing are Adam Gilchrist, who will be Ponting's opposing captain in the Twenty20 encounter under the lights of Aurora Stadium, Justin Langer, Andrew Symonds and Ian Healy.
"Needless to say, many of Australia's greatest ever cricketers have committed and it will be such a thrill to see them all in Launceston to enjoy another game together," Ponting's manager James Henderson said yesterday.
"We actually have a waiting list of guys from other sports wanting to play."
Henderson said Ponting had taken responsibility to invite his "close mates" to play in either the Ponting or Gilchrist teams for the match on the Launceston ground's new drop-in wicket, with the priority to secure at least 14 cricketers with other sports stars and celebrities to be part of the game.
Richmond's Tasmanian Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt, Ponting's fellow former Brooks High graduate Daniel Geale and the state's AFL tenants Hawthorn and North Melbourne have already been confirmed as having a role at the 20,000 capacity venue.
Tickets will go on sale today from Ticketmaster outlets and from www.ticketmaster.com.au, and it is believed that there have already been presales of around 2000.
All funds raised will go to the Ponting Foundation for distribution back into the Tasmanian health care system, to help Tasmanians and their families beat cancer.
