The Meander Valley councillor will today announce his plans to enter state politics after being backed by Premier Lara Giddings.
Mr Connor previously represented consumers on the Tasmanian government's Digital Industries Advisory Council, was elected a Meander Valley councillor in 2011 and is a health sector technology consultant, SES volunteer and Lions Club member.
"In his role with Digital Tasmania, Andrew has campaigned for our state to get the best result from the National Broadband Network and competitive mobile networks," Ms Giddings said yesterday.
Mr Connor said action needed to be taken now to improve the state's telecommunications services because that had immediate and long- term effects.
"Getting our telecommunications infrastructure right puts us in a powerful position in the modern world - Labor understands that," he said.
"I want to help set us up for the future in a way that ensures equality, opportunity and a fair go for all Tasmanians."
If selected, Mr Connor will join Senka Mujkic and sitting members Brian Wightman and Michelle O'Byrne as Labor candidates.
