Support for the two major parties has dropped ahead of the March state election, according to the latest poll of voter intentions.

The EMRS poll, released a short time ago, shows the number of people planning to vote Liberal fell below 50 per cent for the first time this year while Labor's support slumped to 22 per cent.

Palmer United Party continues its rise in Tasmania, a 4 per cent jump from September.

The Greens also enjoyed a boost, recording its highest level of support in 12 months.
