Both the TasICT and Civil Contractors Federation yesterday applauded Visionstream for pushing forward with its installation of the controversial network.

Telstra pit remediation works are complete in the three areas and Civil Contractors Federation chief executive Tony Cook said work could not come fast enough after lengthy delays due to asbestos concerns.

"Considering the size and the scope of this $300 million Tasmanian project, I think it's appropriate that NBN Co and the federal government take an open mind into any financial negotiations with Visionstream," Mr Cook said.

"I understand that Visionstream is contracted to finish the Tasmanian NBN by March 2016."

TasICT executive officer Dean Winter said Visionstream must be able to demonstrate its commitment and ability to meet targets with a strategic review of the network under way.

He said Tasmanians had been promised high-speed internet from both sides of politics.

"There is no doubt [Communications] Minister [Malcolm] Turnbull inherited a mess," Mr Winter siad.

"The NBN rollout essentially stopped during the last four months. But that's no excuse for walking away from a contract with the Tasmanian people."
