Patrick Stanley Daley, 60, is alleged to have killed 31-year-old Megan Wilton and 34-year-old Benjamin Eyles at their Hamilton home on December 16, 2012.
Mr Daley appeared via video link in the Supreme Court in Hobart yesterday and was remanded in custody until February 3.
His lawyer, Greg Richardson, said he was awaiting reports into Mr Daley's fitness to enter a plea.
A delay in psychiatric reports prompted the adjournment of another double murder case.
West Australian man Nicolau Francisco Soares, 27, is alleged to have killed his mother, Dr Delys Weston, 63, and her partner, Professor Gavin Mooney, 69, at Mountain River near Hobart on December 20.
Mr Soares will also face court again on February 3.
