The event co-ordinated by social justice group GetUp! saw more than 60,000 people rally nationwide in a call for a reduction in carbon emissions, the implementation of a carbon-pricing scheme and to move Australia towards renewable energy.
Guest speakers at the Launceston event included Wilderness Society Launceston campaign centre co-ordinator Ruth Groom and prominent Tasmanian Peter Cundall.
A stirred crowd booed and cheered in time with Mr Cundall's speech.
``I'm a simple gardener, I've watched this happening for the last 60 years,'' he said.
He recalled previous environmental battles won in Tasmania because ``people get out in their tens of thousands''.
``Sometimes we are made to feel helpless and that is quite deliberate.
``Never, ever, ever give in.''
Launceston event host Judith Hooley said she felt she had no choice but to put her hand up as event co-ordinator.
``I want a clean planet and a sustainable planet and I want that for everybody,'' she said.
``It's clear the politicians are not going to do anything so the people have to.''
