Tasmania Police is investigating the theft of a double barrel shotgun and ammunition from a gun safe at an Ulverstone property earlier yesterday.
Police say that a shed at the rear of a Von Bibra Road property was broken into some time between the hours of 11am and 8pm.
A firearm safe inside the shed was forced open and the shotgun and ammunition were stolen.
Police say that the safe was installed according to requirements and met the criteria outlined in the Firearms Act 1996.
A police spokesperson said they take firearm crime extremely seriously and would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area between the hours of 11am and 8pm yesterday.
