THE Launceston City Council will spend $60,000 a year to lease equipment for its new gym at Launceston Aquatic.
This will be in addition to the $460,000 that the council will invest in the aquatic centre for its gym.
Launceston City Council general manager Robert Dobrzynski said the council received tenders for several companies and decided to lease rather than buy the equipment, in accordance with the gym's business plan.
Aldermen this Monday will debate on what members and visitors should be charged to use the facility.
Council officers have recommended a $149 joining gym fee and fortnightly charges of $40 for full access to all programs, the pool and spa, or $34 for just the gym area.
The fortnightly fees would be reduced to $24 for complete access and $20 for just the gym in off-peak periods.
The council will soon appoint a health club co-ordinator after applications opened and closed within a two-week period this month.
Mr Dobrzynski said other positions would be advertised in coming weeks.
The council has also sought tenders for the refurbishment of some areas of Launceston Aquatic due to close this Wednesday at 2pm.
