DAY two of the Royal Launceston Show was another success with about 5000 people coming through the gates by early evening.
According to show president Brian Bennett, the number of show-goers was on par with last year.
``It started very slow, but built up as the day went on, then dropped off in the afternoon before the late rush came through,'' he said.
And although numbers were similar, Mr Bennett said people didn't appear to be spending as much as previously due to the economic downturn.
However he said there were many things people could do or see that were free or reasonably priced, so it did not need to be an expensive day out.
Highlights on the final day include the Extreme Trial Show for stunt enthusiasts and Reuben Koops who performed on Australia's Got Talent show. With the introduction of four school terms this year and the show falling in the holidays, Mr Bennett said he believed there were many more young people around this year.
Workplace Relations Minister David O'Byrne said yesterday the North would retain a public holiday show day to allow families to attend, despite it now falling in school holidays.
The Royal Hobart Show is on October 23 to 26 after students have returned to school.
