TASMANIAN hockey duo Eddie Ockenden and Tim Deavin have been named in the Kookaburra's squad for next week's Hockey 9s tournament.
Hobart's Ockenden and Tamar Churinga's Deavin are part of an 18-man squad for the nine-man a side game, hockey's equivalent of Twenty20 cricket.
Five-time world player of the year Jamie Dwyer and Australia's leading scorer for this year Russell Ford are other notable inclusions to the squad that will face Pakistan, Argentina and Malaysia.
Queensland's Liam De Young returns to the national team for the first time since the 2012 London Olympics.
Ockenden will also add to his 184 Australian caps after also being named in the squad that will travel to New Zealand for the Oceania Cup, which starts on October 30.
Of the Hockey 9s squad Kookaburras assistant coach Graham Reid, said: ``We always look forward to the International Super Series Hockey 9s.
``It's an exciting form of the game with a number of rule adaptations we'd love to see included in the 11-a-side version. The Hockey 9s affords us a good opportunity to give local exposure to some of our younger players and, given the expansive attacking nature of the format, to look at the fitness levels of the group.
``While we've already qualified for the World Cup through our World League campaign the Oceania Cup is of vital importance to us given the world ranking points on offer. When it comes to pools and seedings at major FIH events, these are based on your world ranking and given that we're just behind Germany in the rankings we're keen to regain the number one spot soon.''
The Hockey 9s tournament will be held at the Perth Hockey Stadium in Western Australia from October 17-20, while the Oceania Cup will be held from October 30 to November 3 in Taranaki, New Zealand.
