LAUNCESTON Meals on Wheels recipients will today receive a little more than just their lunch.
Launceston City Council community development and safety officer Nathalie Servant said that recipients would also receive a bunch of flowers as part of the Growing Recognition initiative.
Children from 10 Northern Tasmanian primary schools have grown spring bulbs for distribution during Seniors' Week, but Ms Servant said that the initiative went even further this year.
``Launceston residents were invited to bring flowers from their gardens to a collection station where they could also make greeting cards and wrap the flowers for distribution through the Meals on Wheels service,'' she said.
``We were really busy today and it looks as though we'll reach our target of 170 bunches for isolated elderly people.''
Ms Servant said that the initiative began to include those people in Seniors' Week who were unable to attend any of the week's catalogue of activities.
