TASMANIA has fallen to a disappointing 81-run loss to New South Wales today at Bankstown, collapsing to be all out for 97 in pursuit of 179 for victory.
Only Ed Cowan (25) and Alex Doolan (24) showed any sort of fight with the bat, as Moises Henriques took 4-17 and Nathan Lyon 2-23.
Earlier, the Tigers restricted New South Wales to 9-178 from its 50 overs.
Test batsman Steve Smith (70 from 99 balls) was the only Blue to show resistance, as pacemen Ben Laughlin (3-23 from 10 overs) and Evan Gulbis (2-39 from 10) led the charge for the Tigers.
Xavier Doherty and debutant Sam Rainbird took a wicket each, while former Test quick Ben Hilfenhaus impresssed with 0-25 from his 10.
