FUTURE professional Tasmanian dancers will grace Launceston's Princess Theatre stage over the next two weeks.
More than 2200 competitors aged three and above from Tasmanian schools have signed up for the 22nd annual Launceston Festival of Dance, which began yesterday.
New South Wales adjudicator Fleur Harlick will be on hand over the event's duration to cast her eye over all solo and group performances.
Festival secretary Anita Andersen said genres covered throughout the competition include jazz, national, modern and classical forms of dance.
``The standard is very high,'' Mrs Andersen said.
``The festival gives competitors a balance of variety with the dance genres, and the kids just love to perform - that's our main motivation.
``We have got some really talented students here and we've just had quite a few from Launceston and Hobart be accepted to dance full-time at schools on the mainland.''
