WORK has started to upgrade lighting at Aurora Stadium in an effort to attract more twilight cricket and night football to the venue.
A new light tower and replacement lamps in the existing tower aim to provide a broadcast quality setting for cricket, once the Launceston City Council installs its new drop-in pitch.
Aurora Stadium manager Robert Groenewegen said he expected to see the pitch installed later this year for a trial run for local players.
Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said he hoped to see both sports played more on the ground next year, including an extra twilight game from the city's adopted team, Hawthorn.
The work was funded by $1 million from the state government's jobs creation package.
Sports Minister Michelle O'Byrne said about 40 jobs had been created by the project.
