STRIVING to win premierships was the focus of the day yesterday as the Northern High Schools Sports Association held grand finals for its mid-week winter roster at venues around Launceston.
About seven schools and 300 students took part in season-deciders in football at Aurora Stadium, soccer at Harley Parade, hockey at St Leonards, indoor soccer at LISA and netball at the Silverdome.
``It's been a fantastic day and everything has run smoothly,'' NHSSA co-ordinator Andrew McCarthy said.
``It's been a 13-week roster this year but we lost a couple off weeks with bad weather so the kids probably played 11 rounds all up.''
In senior thirds football Riverside easily defeated St Pats and in senior seconds St Pats was a comfortable winner over Exeter.
Full results and winners in all sports were not available yesterday.
The senior firsts football final between Riverside and Queechy was expected to be a closely contested affair with the game starting at 5pm and finishing under lights at Aurora Stadium.
Netball finals were scheduled for a 6pm start.
