HARNESS racing's Yole brothers just missed out on a football premiership with their team Meander Valley on Saturday but picked up a nice consolation prize when their horse Coruba Run won at Mowbray last night.
Meander Valley Suns were beaten by two points in the Leven Football Association grand final but Coruba Run had almost two metres to spare over his rivals at the finish of the Mitavite Pace.
Trainer Ben Yole, stable foreman Mark Yole and driver Tim Yole all play for the Suns and had a big contingent of teammates on hand last night to cheer home their six-year-old gelding.
Tim Yole drove an aggressive race on the 20-1 chance, giving up a spot in the one-out line at the 1600 metres to move to the death and then surging to the front coming off the back straight.
Coruba Run found plenty in the run home to hold out the fast-finishing $3 favourite Why Take Time, with An Eye For An Eye ($8.10) battling on well for third after trailing the leader.
