POLICE have charged a New Town man with assaulting his flatmate two days before the other man died.
The 30-year-old man is facing two charges of common assault for an alleged incident at a New Town Road home on Monday night.
On Wednesday the victim of his alleged assault, a 32-year-old man, was found dead at the address.
However a post-mortem ruled out any connection between the alleged assault and the death.
Acting Detective Inspector Craig Joel said the man's death was not considered suspicious and police did not expect to lay any further charges.
``It is appropriate and necessary however that police look at all the circumstances leading up to death of the man and to ensure that everything is done to provide comfort and explanation to the deceased family and friends,'' Acting Detective Inspector Joel said.
``The cause of the man's death is still subject to an ongoing investigation and other causal factors are being considered.''
Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
