TWO men from New South Wales and three from Tasmania have been charged following searches in relation to Operation Webb, an operation that focuses on the trafficking of amphetamines and firearms into and out of Tasmania.
The two New South Wales men were arrested after security at Launceston Airport alerted police to suspicious luggage.
Police allege four handguns and a silencer were found in one of the suitcases, and $150,000 cash, in the second suitcase.
The remainder of the men were charged after the searches in relation to Operation Webb were enforced.
The operation is ongoing and run in conjunction and consultation with New South Wales Police Strikeforce Whitfield, which is also actively investigating the matter.
These searches resulted in seizure of another three firearms and significant quantities of methylamphetamine.
