Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten has this morning confirmed that Carols by Candlelight will go ahead in 2013, with the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise taking over from the Riverside Lions Club in running the event.
It will be held at Launceston's City Park on December 15.
"Earlier this year when the Riverside Lions Club indicated it would walk away from the event, I immediately organised meetings with local service organisations who were interested in taking the event on,'' Alderman van Zetten said.
"It has been a long process, but I am pleased that we have found an organisation that I believe is uniquely suited to this challenge.
"The Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise is made up of some very eager and talented younger Northern Tasmanians, including Alderman Danny Gibson, who I believe will bring a new creative vision to this event.
"I know the club is eager to begin preparations for the Carols, and will be seeking corporate sponsorship in coming weeks and months.''
Alderman van Zetten said several major sponsors had already been ''located'', but he encouraged Launceston businesses to jump on board.
He said the council would contribute sponsorship, as it sees it as a ''signature event''.
This means it has received a three-year-funding commitment from the council.
The mayor paid tribute to the work of the Riverside Lions Club, but he was confident this year's event would be a ''huge success'' under its new leadership.
