THE Meander Valley Suns Football Club and the Westbury Shamrocks Cricket Club are hoping a proposed $500,000 upgrade of facilities at the Westbury Recreation Ground will make things easier for both clubs next season.
The co-tenants received a pledge of funding from Lyons Liberal candidate Eric Hutchinson yesterday with the money to be used for an upgrade that will see new changerooms, scoreboard and timekeeper's box and medical rooms built in a new facility.
"With football and cricket combined the facilities at the ground are used 12 months a year with an average of 5000 people in and out of both clubs during their seasons," Meander Valley Suns president Leigh Watts said.
The Meander Valley Suns are playing Mole Creek in the Leven Association grand final tomorrow at Railton with the club making an application to join the NTFA division 2 competition from next season.
"That application makes it more important for us to get some new clubrooms and other facilities put in place for next season and I'm reasonably confident that we will be accepted," Watts said.
