POLICE have downgraded their investigation into the death of a man at New Town yesterday after post-mortem results indicated he had not died as a result of a fight earlier this week.
The 32-year-old man was found dead in his New Town Road home by police about 2pm yesterday.
Acting Detective Inspector Craig Joel said police had been considering the possibility that the man's death could have been connected to an alleged altercation at the house earlier this week.
"As a result of forensic investigation and the post-mortem examination, we can now confirm that he has not died as a result of the alleged altercation,'' Acting Detective Inspector Joel said.
However police still can't say how the man died and are now treating the incident as a coroner's investigation.
"There are medical factors that may be involved,'' Acting Detective Inspector Joel said.
A 30-year-old man who shared the house with the deceased is assisting police, and may later face charges related to the alleged altercation but not connected to the man's death.
