FEDERAL Bass Liberal candidate Andrew Nikolic today announced $3 million for Launceston's North Bank redevelopment should the Coalition win government this Saturday.
The $6.8-million redevelopment is designed to beautify the Launceston river edge with community infrastructure, to better connect the land to the city, and to encourage public and private investment.
Money will be spent on the construction of a sound shell and seating for staging concerts and festivals, and a large playground, picnic area and barbecue facilities.
New parklands will be created, a new boardwalk built, and new walking and cycling trails to link to the Kings Wharf area.
The project has already received $3 million from the $100 million Tasmanian Jobs and Growth Plan and the council will cover the rest.
North Bank Committee chairman Tony Peck said the council would soon vote to release the redevelopment concept to the public for feedback.
