AS Exeter's main street undergoes an overhaul, a competition was launched yesterday inviting the community to submit designs to update the town's welcome signs.
The theme for the signs will be centred around fresh produce, orchards, farming and markets.
On August 26 work began on new footpaths, with road levelling to follow soon.
Exeter Improvement Committee chairman Nigel Birrell said the upgrades were aimed to make the street more accessible for residents and more inviting to tourists.
"The road is going to be flattened out so it's easier for people to park and it'll look a whole lot nicer," Mr Birrell said.
Eventually, the committee hopes to create edible verges to further enhance the town's atmosphere as a market town.
Entry forms for the sign design competition and more information can be found on the West Tamar Council website at www.wtc.tas.gov.au. Submissions close on October 31.
