TWO men have been charged with firearms offences following multiple searches in Launceston yesterday.
In the first case, a 28-year-old Newnham man has been charged with possessing stolen property and over drug matters after three firearms were seized from a Newnham property yesterday.
Two of the firearms were found to have been stolen during a burglary in Poplar Parade, Youngtown on August 26 and one found to have been stolen during a burglary from a house in Howell in December 2012.
A 37-year-old man was also charged with firearms offences, following a search in Lemonwood Street, Rocherlea, two further firearms were seized.
The origins at this stage have not been determined.
Four firearms were seized from an address in Vermont Road, Mowbray in another search.'
One of these one has been found to have been stolen during a burglary at Glenorchy last year and another from a burglary at Mayfield last year.
A large quantity of ammunition was also discovered.
Investigations are continuing into the offender in this matter.
Launceston CIB are continuing investigations into the firearms burglaries at Youngtown, Mowbray and Mitre 10 at Longford this week.
