A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been fined $300 for striking his partner in the face.
Ravenswood's Kristam Targett changed his plea to guilty yesterday on one count of assault.
The Launceston Magistrates Court heard Targett went to his partner's home at 3am one day last April.
Targett accused the woman of receiving text messages on a phone which she kept hidden from him.
He attempted to get the phone before striking the woman, the court heard.
According to prosecutor Kelly Brown, the woman felt her ear pop following the slap.
Police weren't contacted until the next day by the partner, which Targett's lawyer Evan Hughes said demonstrated the level of threat she felt.
Mr Hughes said "questions" of fidelity were raised along with suspicions due to the hidden phone.
Magistrate Reg Marron said infidelity might be upsetting but didn't excuse violence.
"We don't own our partners," he told Targett.
"We don't hit anyone, ever."
Ms Brown said the prosecution tendered no evidence on the second count of assault, which was dismissed.
