Smithton business manager Darren Pratt organised the Cruise the Tarkine rally to show Shree Mining and other industry investors they had support.

Mr Pratt said he the diversity of support was "fantastic".

"We had cars joining the convoy all the way from Smithton to Wuthering Heights, with people eager to have their voice heard," Mr Pratt said.

"There were a few hecklers, but you get that.

"The crowd was extremely well behaved and there was no violence - it was an incredible day."

Those who attended the rally heard stories of hardship, struggle and family members moving away.

State opposition mining spokesman Adam Brooks and federal Liberal candidate for Braddon Brett Whiteley attended the rally.

Mr Brooks said Labor's failure to attend showed it could not be trusted with Tasmania's mining industry.

Braddon Labor MHR Sid Sidebottom was not in attendance because of other long-term commitments.

"My commitment to mining and my work toward achieving this is beyond question," he said.

Tasmanian Greens leader Nick McKim said people had a right to protest, but called on political and community leaders to set an example to ensure the debate was respectful.

"Some of the threats that have been made recently are totally unacceptable," Mr McKim said.

"We all have a responsibility to do what we can to ensure that the debate does not descend into threats or violence."
