Yesterday, Kim Kettle, Anna Delphine, Anthony Axton, Justin Donoghue and Kate Barnard handed over a $21,000 cheque to the organisation.
The funds were raised through the Red Tie Ball - a gala evening held at George Town in June that incorporated auctions.
The friends were spurred into action by news that a former school mate, Brian Rowe, had lost his daughter Amelia to SIDS at just four weeks.
``We decided that we had to do something to show him that we cared and that we were thinking of him,'' Mrs Barnard said.
``We were overwhelmed . . . the people of George Town just deserve a big `thank you' - the community really came together to support the cause.''
SIDS Tasmania executive officer Sharon Davis said it was the largest single donation she had received on behalf of the charity.
``The smallest places tend to get behind things and it restores your faith in human nature,'' Mrs Davis said, anticipating that the money raised would support the charity's education work.
