SOUTH Launceston midfielder Matt Hanson is a quietly spoken young man who prefers to let his football do the talking.
The 18-year-old Scotch Oakburn College year 12 student has been an integral part of the Bulldogs' winning onball brigade this season and has relished the increased confidence that has come his way after cementing his senior spot.
A member of the Tassie Mariner's national division 2 championship-winning team this year, Hanson has impressed with his efforts in the midfield and is looking forward to his first finals campaign in State League.
``It's been good finding a bit of the ball but you just have to play your role for the team,'' he said.
``Thorpy has done a really good job getting our midfield fit and all the team ready to go for the finals.
``I was pretty shy at the start but he has helped me build my confidence and I'm starting to be a lot more vocal on the field.
``I'm probably a bit bigger and fitter than last year and I've certainly had areas I've improved in,'' Hanson said.
The Bulldogs face a tough trip to North Hobart today and Hanson expected a close game, with a clash against Burnie to come in the final round next week that should decide top spot on the ladder.
``We sort of think of the Burnie game next week as the start of our finals for us and it will be a big game because if we can get top spot we get a week off,'' he said.
``I've never actually played in a proper final series before - the last time was probably under-13s - so I'm looking forward to it.''
