NEWSTEAD club's top senior female distance runner this season Christine Schenk broke through for her first handicap race win, taking out the Ken O'Toole Memorial 10-kilometre road race at Norwood on Saturday.
Schenk also recorded fastest female time in the event, which has been held for more than 60 years.
Fastest male Simon Phillips was second across the line, with Mick Halaby third.

SATURDAY'S presentation round of Newstead's schools cross- country program saw an emphatic series win to Hagley Farm Primary School, with Scotch Oakburn second and Riverside Primary third.
Hagley also won the Northern All Schools shield based on participation in the championship round at Waverley.
St Patrick's won the secondary series after an early challenge from Launceston Church Grammar School, which was runners-up, and Scotch Oakburn placed third.
Individual series winners were Sam Clifford (Riverside) and Arabella Phillips (Norwood) in the under- 13s, John Cummins (Hagley) and Madison Brazendale (Riverside) in under-11s and Maddison Sayer (Hagley) and Will Bottle (Riverside) in under-9s.
Brother and sister James and Skye Baker (St Patrick's) were the top- scoring secondary runners.
THE Northern Masters ran along the not- as-flat-as-it-looks Mt Leslie Road.
Fifteen runners completed the 6.1km full course and seven opted for the half distance.
Deb O'Regan, returning from her tilt at the Gold Coast run, was winner with a time 10 seconds under her nominated, while close behind, on 11 seconds over, was Neil Hammersley. David Wagner was third most accurate.
The next race starts at Legana (9.2km and 4.6km) at 10am on Sunday.
IT was tough headwinds for LAC runners who tackled the Midlands 15.2km from Bishopsbourne to Bracknell and back.
Eleanor Reid won followed by fastest female Deb Pauna (4.14km) and Brett Grey. Fastest male was Austin O'Byrne running at 3.42km.
Division 2 ran a 2.5km race won by Eliza Anderson from fastest female Ally Wrigley (4.02km) and fastest male Bailey Hume (5.12km).
Division 3 ran 1.5km won by Nathan Cairns followed by Alex Davies (4.03km) and Chloe White (5.22km).
This week's race is the Jeff James Snr 5km at the St Leonards Picnic Ground. All wanting to run the 10km feature race must be entered before the race.
