THE coalition has seized on Premier Lara Giddings' absence from Kevin Rudd's appearance in Tasmania on Saturday, saying it highlights a split within the Labor Party.
Tasmanian Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck and state Deputy Opposition Leader Jeremy Rockliff both said yesterday it had been rare to see federal and state Labor colleagues together during the election campaign's first week.
Senior Tasmanian Labor Minister David O'Byrne said no state ministers met with federal politicians yesterday.
"The state government is very busy running the state and the federal Labor Party is campaigning for re-election," he said.
"It's a bit of a beat-up to suggest that there is anything but a good relationship between state and federal Labor."
