YOUNG hockey hopefuls will have a chance to represent Tasmania at this month's School Sport Australia championships in Canberra.
Launceston girls Emily Withington and Charlotte Grant will join the Tasmanian 12-and-under team while Lorcan Cornelius will play in the male team.
Girls' team coach Amanda Buchanan said the tournament is about enjoyment and gaining experience at a national level.
"It is mainly an opportunity for the kids to participate and enjoy it and learn from the experience," she said.
Each state is represented and teams will play each other once.
"Last year we did quite well, we had a win and two draws so if we could better that, that would be good," she said.
Emily is the vice-captain of the team and took part in the championships last year while this is Charlotte's first time playing at state level.
Buchanan said the tournament represents an opportunity for players to compete at higher levels.
"Australian players are made from these young kids," she said.
Buchanan and the 14 players will be accompanied to the five-day tournament by parents and co-coach and manager Tracey Beltz.
The 16-and-under state sides will be playing in Hobart this weekend, with Kurt Budgeon, Sam Phillips, Bradley Stephens, Brad Buchanan, Keelan Beattie, Rose Barker and Alissia Pearson representing the North.
