Police say that the man was riding a black and silver bicycle north on the Channel Highway about 10.35am this morning, about 3 kilometres south of Huonville.
A 49-year-old Ranelagh man driving a white Holden utility ute travelling in the same direction collided with the rear of bicycle on the exit of a right-hand corner.
The bicycle rider was treated at the scene, but died on the way to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Police say that the deceased man was riding with a 64-year-old Huonville man at the time of the collision. The driver of the utility was the only occupant in that vehicle.
Investigations are continuing.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the two bicycle riders or the utility before or at the time of the crash.
