At 6.41am this morning, the mercury hit a record low of -12.2 degrees, beating the previous July record low of -11.1 degrees.
In Launceston, it reached -2.7 degrees at 6.23am, while at Launceston Airport it bottomed out at -4.3 just before 7am.
In other areas, the temperatures dipped to:
King island 1.5 deg., Devonport Airport 1, Sheffield -1.8, Smithton -2.2, Wynyard -2.4, Cressy -4.9 at 6.34am, Fingal -5.9 and St Helens -0.4 degrees.
But there is good news, with sunshine expected across most areas in the north today.
It is expected to reach 11 degrees in Launceston today, 12 in Burnie and 11 in Devonport, Scottsdale and in Hobart.
