Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education and Skills Paul O'Halloran presented the certificates to 67 students who sat the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy tests last year when in grade 3, 5, 7, and 9.
Thirty two of those students were recognised for being in the top 1 per cent state wide.
``Words and numbers are at the very heart of how we learn and interact with the world, not just in childhood but throughout our lives,'' Mr O'Halloran said.
He said while improvements still had to be made, today was an opportunity to recognise those performing to their best already.
NAPLAN testing for 2013 will be held next week from Tuesday through to Thursday.
