Glenorchy police are investigating an armed robbery at the Valern Hotel, Albert Road Moonah which occurred at approximately 1.45am this morning.
Police say a man approached staff armed with what appeared to be a knife and a metal pole. He brandished the pole in a fashion which convinced staff at the hotel that he was carrying a firearm and demanded money.
Staff handed over an undisclosed quantity of cash and the offender fled towards Station Street on foot. No vehicles or other persons were identified at or leaving the scene.
Police searched the area, but could not find the man.
People were present in the gaming lounge at the time but were unaware of the incident. No one was hurt during the incident.
Police have described tha man as being aged in his 30s, approximately 5 foot 7, caucasian, olive/tanned skin, brown eye brows and having blue or green eyes.
He was wearing a home made balaclava. a black "puffer" style jacket with the hood up over his head, a black cargo style pants with pockets, gloves on his hands and white sandshoes.
