Aurora puts on a powerful light show

Prospect hobby photographer Jason Stephens managed to capture the Aurora Australis in all its glory from Evandale earlier this week.

Mr Stephens, 37, said he made two attempts to try to capture the natural Antarctic light display - two kilometres south on Nile Road.

''I only went there because I have taken photos out there during the day and I knew it was a good vantage point to look south without too many distractions in the way,'' Mr Stephen said.

''I boosted the contrast a little bit but they are pretty much the colours . . . because with the white balance they throw out different colours.''

Mr Stephens said he took the photo with 30-second exposures between 10pm and 10.30pm.
