A close shave with power of persuasion

LEE Barnes is a persuasive person - she convinced her daughter and mother to shave their heads along with her and yesterday they went bald in the name of cancer research.

The trio - Mrs Barnes along with daughter Courtney Reid and mother Judy Selby - were shaved outside International Flowers and Balloonland  in Wellington Street.

In the process they raised $500 for the World's Greatest Shave, which supports the Leukaemia Foundation, and hope to raise more. Go to www.worldsgreatestshave.com and type in Lee Barnes in the ``search for a shaver'' area.

Mrs Barnes, of Mowbray, said they chose the florist to lose their locks as the owner's granddaughter, who was a relative, was in remission for cancer.

``I did it because it is a fantastic cause,'' Mrs Barnes said.

Mrs Selby, who has just turned 70, was in a joking mood, saying: ``Now you see it, now you don't. But it's not bad for a 70-year-old.''

Courtney, 17, a Newstead College student, said her mother's line that ``you will raise more money with three generations doing it'' was a persuasive argument.
