Bad light has halted Tasmania's charge in its must-win Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria in Hobart.

At stumps, the Bushrangers are 7-264 in reply to 6-369 (dec).

Opener Rob Quiney finished with 60, while his partner made 73.

Cameron White and David Hussey will both resume after tea on 15. 

EARLIER: An unbroken 114-run opening partnership has put Victoria in the box seat in its Sheffield Shield encounter with Tasmania at Bellerive Oval.

The Tigers declared overnight 6-369, with the Bushrangers making strong progress in the pursuit of that total to be 0-114 at lunch on day 2.

Rob Quiney is not out 57 and Chris Rogers 55.

Tasmania needs maximum points from the match to have any chance of sneaking into the Sheffield Shield final.
