MORE Tasmanian councils could see the number of councillors and aldermen cut with a second council review by the Local Government Board to start soon.
Seven Tasmanian councils were reviewed by the board last year, with Central Coast, Devonport City, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Kingborough, Glenorchy City and Tasman councils to shed 15 councillors and aldermen over the next two election cycles.
A state government spokesman said Local Government Board recommendations to cut councillor numbers on six Tasmanian councils would reach Tasmanian Governor Peter Underwood for approval in the next few weeks.
Under the change, Devonport alderman and Central Coast councillor numbers will drop from 12 to nine.
The Glenorchy and Kingborough city councils will shed two aldermen each, Tasman will lose two councillors and one councillor will go from Glamorgan-Spring Bay.
The Southern Midlands Council last month asked that their councillor numbers be reduced from nine to seven.
This prompted board chairman Hadley Sides to contact other councils for the review.
The Northern Midlands Council will next week decide at its council meeting whether it will consider cutting any of its nine councillor positions.
