20 charged for drinking on way to music fest

LAUNCESTON police charged about 20 people for drinking alcohol in public on their way to  Sunday's Breath of Life music festival.

Inspector Michael  Johnston said it suggested people were continuing to ``preload'' with alcohol before going to events.

Sunday was the first time police had targeted the offence before the festival and Inspector Johnston  said police would focus on it next year.

As for the festival itself, Inspector Johnston said the crowd had been well behaved .

Police made two arrests including one for assault and another for failing to obey a move on order by police.

Inspector Johnston said security evicted about 10 people from the festival at Inveresk Showground.
