SEVERE thunderstorms dropped more the 23 millimetres of rain in 30 minutes at Liawenee at 1pm today.
While most Tasmanians are sweating it out in 30-plus degree temperatures, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for people in Deloraine, Cressy, Lake St Clair and Cradle Valley.
In a release, the bureau said ``severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours''.
In total, 44 millimetres has fallen in the region since 1pm.
State Emergency Services said people should:
*Move your car under cover.
*Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
*Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
*Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
*Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
