TREVALLYN has set up a rematch against Beauty Point in next weekend's TCL A-grade final with a 55-run victory over Legana in the preliminary final played at Trevallyn yesterday.
The home side made 6-234, after winning the toss and batting first with captain-coach Damian Whybrow leading the way with 60 not out off 37 balls, including four boundaries and six sixes.
Nathan Balym made 46 and Wayne Ford chipped in with a handy 37 not out off 22 balls - as he teamed with Whybrow to smash 84 runs off the last five overs of the innings.
Legana captain-coach Andrew Gower was the best of the Durham bowlers picking up 3-21.
Legana made 179 in reply, with an Ian Champion century the highlight of the innings. Champion hit 116 off 98 balls, with seven fours and nine sixes, in a magnificent knock, but it was not enough to get his side home.
He had little support from the rest of the batting line-up and was the only Legana batsman to reach double figures.
The Trevallyn attack shared the wickets with Ford the best with 3-21, while Adam Bourke took 2-36 and Josh Walker 2-9, off eight overs straight.
"We didn't turn up to play last week - this week we did," Whybrow said.
"We wanted to win the toss and bat first and put a decent total on the board in a final and 234 was going to be a big effort for any side to chase down in a final.
"I thought we bowled well but Ian Champion is one of a kind and it was one of the best hundreds I've seen for a while.
"I think the last-wicket partnership went for 94 but when Champion is going like he was you can't stop him and it was an outstanding innings."
Whybrow said his side was looking forward to a rematch with Beauty Point after its qualifying final defeat.
"Last week wasn't our best day out but at least we get another crack at it," he said.
