THE glamorous art of burlesque has heralded the start of a new beginning for an iconic Launceston venue.
Gay-friendly and burlesque venue the Lazy Butterfly is in the midst of its opening weekend, rebranding York Town Square's The Pavilion with a three-day extravaganza.
Last night, Miss Tasmania Burlesque 2013 Lucy Sky Diamond worked her magic over the club on its second night of opening.
Co-owner Michelle - who does not wish to be formally identified - said Friday's opening night went beyond expectations.
"There were more than 220 people through the door and it was just a fantastic night," Michelle said.
Drag queen diva Dee D Dazua leapt across Bass Strait from Melbourne to open the night, and was supported by Hobart drag queens.
"We had a lot of people travel up from Hobart for our opening night, which was fantastic and really encouraging," Michelle said.
The Lazy Butterfly's celebrations continue today from 8pm, with burlesque and boylesque performers and more.
