Under-17s shuttling off to teams event

THE state under-17 badminton team heads to Victoria at the end of the month to contest the June Bevan Trophy teams event and the Australasian championships.

The Tasmanian team will be coached by Rodney Lockett with Kelly Lockett as team manager and Pauline Dobson team umpire. The 10-member team features three Northern boys in brothers Corey and Sam Lockett and Josh Partridge.

Corey, 15, will captain the team.

He and younger brother Sam, 13, and teammate Josh, 13, are all coached by former state player Scott Johnson.

"Their selection is a credit to Scott for all the hard training that he has put in with them over the past few years," Rodney Lockett said.

"And to have two brothers playing together in the team is pretty exciting."

Other team members include Aaron Harvey, Jess Aylett and Crystal Corbett-Smith (North- West), Alec Avellana, Heather Rothery, Laura Dennison and Siobhan Duhig (South).

"Only four of the 10 are previous Tasmanian representatives," Lockett said.

"It will be a great experience for all and we hope we can come back with some good results."
