State stars for madison

TASMANIA will be represented when the Bendigo International runs its first ever women's madison next Saturday.

Perth's junior world champion Georgia Baker and national junior champion Macey Stewart, of Devonport, will represent the state and Tasmanian Institute of Sport cycling coach Gene Bates said they are well placed.

Baker is no newcomer to the race having teamed with Launceston's Lauren Perry to finish third in the madison at this year's national championships.

"I think they should go pretty well," Bates said.

"They are both very classy athletes in their own right so together they should be pretty good and being about the same size should help them as it makes the changes that much smoother.

"They love it, are really excited by the idea and see it as a new facet of the sport for them."
