Vodafone will double the workforce at its Hobart call centre over the next year following a $4 million funding announcement by the federal government.
The telecommunications company will expand its Kingston call centre headquarters by 750 - or 70 new jobs a month over the next 12 months.
The call centre currently employs 680 people.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who is in the state today, said the funding from the government will help with the cost of transition from Vodafone's offshore operations.
The state government will fund $850,000 worth of infrastructure and waive payroll tax for the new employees.
